4H and Parkday

I completely forgot to post yesterday about starting 4H. And I will get to that in just a minute, promise.

Yesterday we started the day at horseback lessons. Malia got to ride a stubborn Caspian- and learned that this small breed are relatively uncommon in the US. Her trainer had her ride this horse and from watching it seemed like a good thing! I think Malia made more progress yesterday than in any one lesson before. She had to be assertive and firm with the horse, and I think that was a great thing.

After that we got some lunch and went to the park to meet some friends. They dug a fort in a mulch pile, they ran through the "woods", they made homemade paint out of berries, and so much more. I love seeing them at the park, fully invested in their environment and relationships.

We went home, washed, ate and back out again to 4H. Wow. Ok, so I was really impressed with the leadership and management skills that the older kids demonstrated. It is for kids, but also run by kids. You volunteer for various jobs, projects and commitees. Our girls are Cloverbuds, the young ones of the group. They seemed to really enjoy themselves. It was a little formal- a reciting of the 4H pledge, the meaning of the symbols... Just a new experience to be certain. So long as they are liking it though, I think we will continue with it.

No pictures, totally forgot to pull the camera phone out all day :)
