Soccer

Malia and Eliana are doing soccer this fall. They are both loving it, and they are both learning the sport much faster than I expected them to! I definately expected a bigger learning curve. They both did great, and they are both really getting it. I don't want to imply Malia isn't doing awesome, because she really is. I just also want to share how happy I am for Eliana.

Eliana seems to have a natural knack for it. Without anyone ever explaining she seemed to pick right up on how to dribble and control the ball. At her first practice they played a game called "shark" where one girl is the shark and she runs around attempting to take over control of the ball the other girls are dribbling up and down the field. It was Eliana's first time with a soccer ball in front of her, and she was the last one to get her ball taken. She instinctively knew to keep the ball close and when to turn away from the other player. It was really fun, and it was so nice to see her feeling really good about herself. Some times it seems, to her as a younger sister, that things come easier to her older sister... I think it felt really good for her to realize that she was just getting it right off the bat.

I was also impressed to see how well she was able to listen to auditory directions while playing. I think she was able to listen BETTER running up and down a giant field than in a quiet classroom. lol.
