I know I'm biased, but I think I have the coolest girls. I love that they get along more than they fight, and I just love that they are in my life. What mama couldn't feel all sappy about her kids looking at that picture?!

Sweet Sisters
This is completely unrelated to the trip... I found this picture on my camera card from some weeks ago. I feel so lucky to have such cool girls. Dathan and I noticed two of the girls had slipped off and this is what we found when we got to them. Cuddled together and looking at a DS.
I know I'm biased, but I think I have the coolest girls. I love that they get along more than they fight, and I just love that they are in my life. What mama couldn't feel all sappy about her kids looking at that picture?!

Road Trip: Day Two
So day two was a blast. We started it off with a fun park, is there a better way to start a day?
Observations... It rained bugs. No, I'm not kidding... Illinois rained bugs. I must have stopped three times in an hour to wash my windshield.
I decided that on day two I'd make a point to take a few more pictures of the scenery. This didn't prove to be difficult, as I found the entire southern portion of Illinois could be summed up in just one photo shot out my side window.
Highway, cornfields, farms. Nothing else to see here folks. Maybe I'm missing something, but that was my view anyway :)
We pulled off for lunch at an exit that advertised an establishment called "That 50's Place". Curiousity was aroused, and quickly distinguished as I saw it. So we drove down the road a little bit and found an old, old Texaco & a small Diner that looked cool. Who can pass up a place with a giant mural painted on the outside of the building?

But Eliana was not interested
Unless I caught her off guard of course.
Bored in the outskirts of Chicago traffic (which passed quickly and painlessly)
Not much longer the scenery started to look more like Michigan... little bit of hwy, lots of trees.
As we drove Malia pointed out all the corn fields near her Aunt & Uncle's house and quite seriously said "Maybe they eat a lot of corn now" which tickled me to no end.
We got settled in quickly... Malia had an allergy breakout the first night here, but it seems to have passed and she is doing pretty good now. Will keep the blog as updated as I can.

Road Trip: Day One
The girls and I headed out yesterday morning. Well, morning was our intention. We left at about 11. Before we even got out of town, we lost the new DS game... the one I had planned to keep them the most busy on our trip. So 5 minutes in to the trip I was pulling car seats out. Not quite what I envisioned, and I never found the game.
I had planned on doing 8 hours the first day and 4-5 the next. In retrospect I wish I'd broke evenly in half. Those 8 hours were painless, fun even. How much fun we could have had if we stopped at half of the fun little places we saw on our drive. I think we will try a couple on the way home.
We got in to the hotel last night around 8:30 (have I mentioned I love laptops?). On the same little road as our hotel was a carnival of some sort, so we wandered over to check it out. It was closing at 9 so we just walked around checking it all out. We're gonna head back over for a few before getting on the road this morning. Hopefully I'll have pictures to post soon.
I have to say, the girls are fabulous on road trips. They are getting to be so much fun. I love, love, love older kid stage. Babies are cute and all, but big kids rock.
Sasha just rolled over out of her sleep and rubbed her eyes. The first thing she said to me was "Look, I wake up on trips to!" haha, lucky thing.

Eliana's First Movie
Eliana had to have an EEG Thursday morning, and she had to be sleep deprived for it. So her and I headed out to a late movie Wednesday night to kick off our night of intentional sleep deprivation.
The only thing that I thought looked tame enough for her was "Kit Kittredge". It was already dark when we showed up, so she got the whole experience. Neon lights, lit movie posters, the dim lobby and dark halls. It was entirely endearing to see the excitement on her face.
She was absolutely blown away at the size of the screen, so she selected a chair in the very last row. When we sat down she told me "I thought the theatre only had puppets and real people... I didn't know it had a TV!"
As she sat slouched with her feet on the chair in front of her and a giant tub of popcorn on her lap that she could barely see over I wished I had brought a camera. It was so sweet.
She sat through the whole movie, and only bored in the last ten minutes or so. Afterwards we got a bite to eat and headed back home for bath and a "nap".

Mommy is Getting Lax...
Now that they are all getting a little older mommy is getting a little lax... video games, movies, what is next?!
Apparently, pop rocks. I decided that no child should head off to school unaware of what pop rocks are. haha. Oddly, I did not like them at all now... how I loved them as a child. I know, evil and unhealthy... but it was an absolute riot. Hey, it is my job to teach them balance and moderation. At least that is what I'm telling myself.
The girls, of course, thought they rocked. heh.
Obviously thinking I'm one cool mama-

"hmm... maybe Sasha is on to something here"

August 6
The older two girls start school on August 6. Their mama is one nervous nellie. It is pretty early, but they get a lot of vacations throughout the year. Most months have a whole week off during the year. I think I'll like the schedule.
Malia of course chose a cherry print backpack- it has a matching lunchbox we're looking for, but not sure we'll find it. (Originally from Gymboree)
Eliana wants something with fairies, mermaids, unicorns, etc... but I want to avoid the standard disney stuff so it is proving harder to find.
Now we're starting to buy some school clothes. phew... it gets expensive when you're buying all at once, doesn't it?

I thought this was cute. I found Eliana using the teeter totter in an unusual way the other day.
Latest "pet" project
The girls have been loving making these glass vases... we eed to find some more tissue paper and try some other glass items. You just cut the textured tissue paper up and decoupage it on to the glass. It is so simple, but end up looking really nice.

If anyone sees this textured tissue paper anywhere, let me know. I've had no luck since the one time I bought what we have now. Such a shame... it is really quite pretty.

Lego
Legos have been popular in our house for a real long time time... The older two have outgrown the duplo size and Sasha still has that Lego table in her room. They all still play around that table though (thanks in part to the ultra cool set from Paka & Rochelle).
Eliana is really enjoying the Berryville lego sets (also from Paka & Rochelle) an Malia has moved on to the big projects. She is so proud of herself for being capable when the box says 8-12 years on the front. As she said when she did the Ferris Wheel "I must be really smart, because I'm not even 7 yet!" haha She actually did them herself as well. I thought she'd need us to help her a little, but aside from the occasional rogue piece... she has worked entirely on her own.
Here we have Malia's first "big" project, the Ferris Wheel.
Then she took that down and did the crane. She loves the crane so much, she has yet to pull it apart to try the bridge. (It was a 3 in 1 set).
She is really loving these Lego sets now and once she completes it she is adding to the design a little with her own touches.

Video Games
Have been discovered in this house. The girls saved for their very own Nintendo DS units. They love them. Dathan, me and Malia have been really enjoying racing each other on Mario Kart. Sasha and Eliana love the "Smart Kids" game so much we think we might need to buy another one. Malia has taken to this Pokemon game even more than I expected her to. It seems to be pretty good for her reading.
They are loving their systems, I thought I'd dislike them but they are a lot of fun. Family fun even. We love the features that allow us to play each other.

Malia is 7!
Malia is now 7... I have no idea when that happened. She is turning in to a really cool kid.
She decided she didn't want to paint her hands to get her handprints... doesn't like the feel of it. So she traced them instead and then decorated them.
Recently I took Malia to the store to get a new outfit... for the first time Malia was walking around the store, showing me what SHE liked. She made 4 different outfits on her own and then wanted to go into the dressing room to try on each one. We've never done dressing rooms before and it just seemed like an interesting milestone to me- more awareness about the difference of how an outfit looks on a hanger and how it looks/feels on your person. Then she proceeded to pick out which one she wanted completely on her own. It felt very "big kid" to me. She is really growing up.

The girls are all growing up... Sasha turned three April 25 :) I didn't get many pictures of her that day as it was soon after our accident and she wasn't handling it real well. There are a couple with her crown of flowers though :)

It has been awhile...
I'm so sorry, with the move and all I haven't had a chance to update.
The move went really well. The girls all have their own room now! I wasn't sure if I'd like it or not... but we LOVE it. Bedtime is really sweet right now... after brushing their teeth each of the girls go to their room and read while Dathan and I get to go in to each of them alone. It gives us more time to connect with them each individually at the end of each day. Love it.
Malia is decorating in all things red. Lots of cherry print stuff, as she is still obsessed with cherry print. We're also doing red lanterns and we're planning to buy a red dragon kite as well.
Eliana is decorating in all things imaginary. Unicorns, mermaids, pegasus', fairies, you name it. At first she wanted only mermaids, but has since decided to mix it up. This is very much her these days. I made this mermaid image for her room- and hope to collect some more things.
